Luzhou Medical College (LZMC) was founded in 1951. It is one of the schools of higher learning in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, China. Luzhou Medical College was renamed Sichuan Medical University in June 2015.It is divided into two parts: The Zhongshan campus and The Nangao campus, covering 1,004,700 square meters in total. The Zhongshan Campus is located on Mount Zhongshan and is surrounded by the Yangtze River and the Tuo River. The area is also surrounded by a multitude of green camphor trees and a variety of local flowers. The new campus, Nangao, has modern teaching facilities and updated architecture that fits the modern style. In the past 53 years, Luzhou Medical College has developed into centre of learning that specializes in medical care and scientific research, and connects the Sichuan, Yunan, and Guizhou Provinces and the Chongqing Municipality to each other, making it an easily accessible cradle for students from a wide area who are interested in medical research. The approximate 17,000 students who typically occupy the college at any one time are from a wide variety of Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and many come from different countries entirely. The total staff number at around 2,560, with 520 of them being onsite professors or associate professors whose focus includes Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and a hybrid combination of the two.
